Among the tombs of the Old South
Can you ship some northwoods spruce?
I’m in a Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas drought
Yeah, it’s a Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas drought
It’s the 24th in Charleston
just the day it is back home
But the equation
For the occasion
Isn’t music plus wine plus decoration
It’s the people I keep
It’s their location
And as it turns out
always has been
As it turns out
always has been
I walk outside, I’m not breathing clouds
Send me Dad’s homemade milk stout
I’m in a Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas drought
Yeah, it’s a Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas drought
25th in the Holy City
churches packed with God’s babies
But the bells
The hymns that swell
Don’t compare
to the way I felt
When my girls learned guitars
Raised holiday hell
And it’s clear as ice
I’ll die a Cinnaminiature
Yeah, it’s clear as ice
I’ll die a Cinnaminiature
Decorated palms at the ocean’s mouth
Savannah, mail me winter poems
I’m in a Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas drought
Yeah, it’s a Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas drought
And it’s clear as ice
I’ll die a Cinnaminiature
Yeah, it’s clear as ice
I’ll die a Cinnaminiature
And it’s clear as ice
I’ll die a Cinnaminiature
Yeah, it’s clear as ice
I’ll die a Cinnaminiature

A Pony For Christmas

I like to think back to the time when man first measured power as it compared to horses. When the equine and the engine got on their marks, got set, and went - round and round that racetrack until the former tired out like an animal and the latter made way for the destruction of the ozone like a human being.
Everything is set for the season; I unpacked my colored lights and pine-scented candles to fend off the night. I put my poinsettia sweaters and wool quilts in the laundry basket, cued up for cozying.
My washing machine is powered by three-fourths of a horse. Is that strong enough to drag Christmas from the closet where it is crumpled and musty? If so, will it lay at my feet like a good dog or will it taunt me like a star being reclaimed by the day, fading away faster than the speed of love? Maybe I should just get a horse.
